A full day tour with great scenery, good food and good wine
South African wines are now world class and production is increasing every year. Today South Africa is in sixth place in the world in terms of production. There are over 300 wineries in the country. Most are in Western Cape, more specifically around the cities of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
We will visit 2-3 farms on this tour. Our first stop is Spier, a winery outside Stellenbosch. This winery has a wide selection of wine, food and other activities.The vineyard boasts its own hotel and golf course. After our tour, we'll stop for coffee in their lovely picnic park and then stroll around to tour the winery.
After visiting Spier we'll continue our journey to Stellenbosch, the second city founded in South Africa. This quaint old town is worth a visit just by itself.We'll then continue through Helshoogte Pass to Franschhoek. We'll stop at Boschendal winery for our first wine tasting. Here, we will sip wine in the shadow of the big oak and depending of time of year even a cellar tour to check out what goes into winemaking.
Franschhoek is freely translated to mean "French Corner", In the 1600’s, the French Huguenots were allotted land for their skills to create the foundations of the current South African wine industry.
The city is also a gastronomic center that boasts an array of world class restaurants. We'll stop for lunch at one of our favorites called "French Connection" a true gourmet place.Satisfied after a good meal, we'll continue tasting another wine at a local vineyard.
We'll conclude our day by traveling through scenic lands and the biggest fruit farms in the country on our way back to your accommodation.
